2010 Season Tour Stop 1:
The Main event - The 2010 GB9 Midlands Classic
& The Buxton Pro Cup
& The Buxton Challenge Cup
from Barceló Buxton Palace Hotel
12 - 14 March 2010
Player's Meeting:
As this is the first event of the new season we must insist that all players attend the player's meeting, which will be held in the tournament room at 3.30pm Friday 12 March. This is an opportunity to make any important player announcements and will only take place at the first event of 2010.
Important notice - Rule change:
Following feedback from players we have amended tournament regulation 2a to allow limited practice at the start of your match. We ask all players then begin their match promptly. Rule 2b, which forbids use of the match tables for practice in between matches remains in force.
Entry:
This is a regular GB9 Tour Stop open to GB9 tour players only.
Reserve entry:
If you have been contacted by GB9 and offered a reserve place in this event complete the Reserve Entry Form. After submitting the form we will give you instructions on how to pay your entry fee.

Venue:
Barceló Buxton Palace Hotel
Palace Road
Buxton
Derbyshire
SK17 6AG
Telephone: 01298 22001 (When booking our special rate call Monday to Friday between 9 &5, select option 0, then ask to book for GB9).
Overspill hotel - see accommodation below.
Equipment:
16 x SAM Professional Pool Tables customised specifically for GB9 featuring a single slate with Artemis cushions and Simonis 860 cloth. Aramith TV Pro Cup Balls. Flexi-rest. Tapped tables.
Accomodation:
To guarantee entry to the event players MUST contact the hotel (Barceló or Buckingham) to book rooms by the booking deadline of 29 January.
If you have not booked by this date the hotels will inform us and you may not be allowed to play in the event. It is important, therefore, to contact us to let us know if you are having any difficulty booking a room.
It is a condition of membership that all players stay at the hotel venue on the Friday and Saturday night (please see note below about overspill hotel where Barceló is full), please call the hotels direct on the telephone number above and quote GB9 to get your preferential rate of £39 pppn double occupancy or £62.50 pppn single occupancy (see below for rates at the Buckingham).
Choice of accommodation is on a first-come-first-served basis and with a limited number of twin rooms available we would encourage players to book early.
Need another player to share with? Post your details on the forum in the room share thread for this event.
If you have entered the World Pool Masters Qualifying event, which is being held at the venue on the Monday, don't forget to book an extra nights’ accommodation.
Up to the booking deadline mentioned above only members of the tour can book accommodation that has been block booked in advance by GB9. After the booking deadline the hotel will take bookings from anybody else wishing to attend so this is the time to book additional rooms for friends and family that wish to offer their support. You should still quote GB9 and will be offered the same preferential rate.
The hotel will require a valid debit/credit card to secure booking but no money will be taken until check-in. Cancellation can be made up to 24 hours before the first night.
Upon checking in the hotel receptionist will give you a voucher confirming your 2 nights stay, which you must present to the tournament desk for entry to the tournament.
Overspill hotel:
We have closely monitored the room bookings with Barceló over the last few weeks and you may be aware that last week we had to withdraw the option for non-players attending the event with players to book rooms allocated to GB9. This is because we have found a higher than expected take up rate with friends and families of players and as a result we are now in danger of demand for rooms exceeding our block booking allocation. We will be contacting players with single occupancy bookings over the next few days to ask if they would be willing to share a room with another player in an attempt to free up more space in the Barceló.
If you do want to room share and don't have someone to share with please post in this thread on Pro9.

Thankfully on this occasion we have agreed a deal with a good hotel to take the overspill. The Buckingham Hotel is just 0.4 miles from the Barceló and is £72.50 per room per night for a twin/double (so just £36.25 pppn when sharing). Additionally the Barceló have generously agreed to offer complimentary use of the leisure facilities to any GB9 guests who have booked in to the Buckingham. If you are unable to book in to the Barceló the details for the Buckingham are as follows:
Buckingham Hotel
1/2 Burlington Road
Buxton
Derbyshire
SK17 9AS
Tel: 01298 70481
Contact the reception desk, Quote GB9 and book the room for the 12th and 13th March. The hotel will require a credit/debit card to hold the booking, but as with the Barceló hotel, no payment will be taken until checkout. Upon arrival at the hotel they will provide you with a voucher which you must bring to the tournament desk. We must insist that only players can be booked into GB9 allocated rooms at the hotel prior to 4 February and could you please where possible share with another player. This will obviously be more cost effective for you.
If the Buckingham advise there are no further rooms available on the GB9
allocation please book separately via their website using
this link. If booking by this method please do not quote GB9 and
do not ask to to be ticked off on the entry list. Instead
email the tournament director
with a copy of your confirmation quoting all names included in the booking.
We'll manage this differently at future events in an attempt to ensure all players are guaranteed a room at the venue. Players have a role to play here too by booking as early as possible, before the hotel has released any other rooms to the public. I'm sure you'll appreciate this is a learning experience for us and we're doing all we can to ensure your experience as a GB9 Tour Player is as enjoyable as possible.
Entry fees:
All membership fees must be paid up to date before the start of play at this event. You may pay in cash at the event but in order to speed up the registration process prior to the start of play we would prefer you to pay in advance via bank transfer, PayPal or cheque.
If paying by bank transfer this must leave your bank account 4 days prior to the event at the latest. Payments by cheque must arrive 10 days prior. PayPal payments must be made by the day before the event at the latest using cleared funds (credit/debit card or PayPal balance). Failure to observe these deadlines will result in you being asked to pay in cash at the event or forfeit your match.
Failure to pay the instalment due will result in you being refused entry to this and any subsequent events until arrears are paid. There will be absolutely no exceptions and fees must be paid up to date prior to the start of play.
Draw / Start Times:
As all players must attend the venue on Friday for the players meeting we are not posting start times in advance. The actual draw will be displayed on the notice board in the venue 1 hour before the start of play on the Friday evening and on our live scoring site shortly after play has begun.
GB9 'WAGs' activties
The fantastic additions to GB9 this season have meant that for
many tour players the GB9 events are a truly family occasion. The superb
facilities on offer at Barceló hotels make it a great excuse for players to
bring wives, girlfriends and children to enjoy the weekend. So if you are
coming to GB9 event and don't want to watch your boyfriend or hubby playing pool
all day why not get involved with all the other WAGs and do something different.
The GB9 team want to say a big thank you to Liz Dooley who has very kindly
agreed to coordinate activities at each event.
You can find full details of the activities planned for Buxton in the
information sheet here. With
a wide range of fun activities proposed there is something to suit everyone.
If you would like to be involved or would like more information you can find
Liz's contact details in the information sheet above. |
