Ranking FAQ

Ranking system:

GB9 operates a 12 month rolling ranking i.e. we will use results from the last 6 tour stops.

Separate rankings will be maintained for each event (Main, Pro & Challenge).

The main ranking is the most valuable one for the following reasons:

  • it will be deemed the official British 9 ball ranking

  • the top 2 can expect an additional award from GB9 at the end of the season

  • players ranked 33 to 64 will be seeded into round 2 of the main event

  • the top 32 will be seeded into round 3 of the main event

  • the top 104 tour players will secure an automatic place on the tour for the next season

The following points will be awarded:

Seeded players who lose their first match will receive points for the round before the one they were seeded in to.  For example, a top 32 player on the main event seeded into round 3 who loses that match will receive 4 points.

If 2 or more players are tied we will use “rack difference" then "break and run %" to decide who is placed higher. If positions are still tied the player ranked higher before the most recent event will receive the higher position.

Relegation & promotion:

The top 8 players in the Challenge rankings at the end of the season will be promoted and must play in the Pro Division if they rejoin the tour the following season.  The top 24 players in the Pro rankings will retain their Pro Division status and must also play in this division if they rejoin the tour the following season.  This is compulsory.

If additional Pro Division places are available due to players leaving the tour the Committee will contact other players with an offer of a Pro place if they have expressed a preference for one on their renewal application form.  In this case places will be offered in the following order:

  • Committee wild card choice (can be used in exceptional circumstances).

  • Challenge division players ranked 9 to 16.

  • Pro division players ranked 25 and above.

  • Any other Challenge division players who have expressed a preference (in Challenge ranking order)

Players promoted to the Pro Division will be removed from the Challenge Division rankings and players relegated to Challenge will be removed from the Pro Division rankings.

The top 104 tour players in the main ranking will secure an automatic place on the tour for the following season subject to submitting a renewal application and paying the appropriate deposit by the due date.  Any remaining tour players can also rejoin the tour in the same way if places are available (max 104 places) due to player resignations.  All other players wishing to join the tour in the following season can attempt to do so via one of the end of season qualification events, which are usually announced in September and played in November / December.

The Tour Committee reserve the right to amend the format, regulations, match schedule and prize structure at any time without prior notice.  However, we do not currently envisage having to make significant changes to these proposals.  If we do make any changes we will endeavour to update this website promptly and if it is a significant change we will also make an announcement on the Pro9 website.
