Ranking system: GB9 operates a 12 month rolling
ranking where we will use the best 4 results from the last 5 tour stops.
The following points will be awarded:
*Seeded players who lose their first match will receive points for the
round before the one they were seeded in to. In the main event
this includes players who get a bye into round 2 through the random
draw. For example, a top 32
player on the main event seeded into the last 64 who loses that match
thereby finishing 33rd will
receive 4 points rather than 6. If 2 or more players are tied we will use “rack difference" then "break and run %" to decide who is placed higher. If positions are still tied the player ranked higher before the most recent event will receive the higher position.
Relegation & promotion for end 2011 / start 2012: For the 2012 season we move to an elite 16 player Pro Division so we have adjusted the criteria for selecting the players as follows:
1. Existing top 8 pros -
these players are not allowed to play challenge division if they rejoin. 4. Wild card places will be given by the GB9 committee for exceptional cases. For some players the Committee will deem that Pro Division status is compulsory e.g. for established cue sports professionals joining GB9 for the first time or for existing players who we believe have a false ranking due to exceptional circumstances. 5. Pro players ranked 9 to 20 (Optional) 6. Other existing pro players (Optional) 7. Other existing challenge players (Optional)
Players promoted to the
Pro Division will be removed from the Challenge Division rankings and
players relegated to Challenge who rejoin the tour will be removed from the Pro Division
rankings.
Frequently asked questions We do get a few queries about the rankings so we hope this FAQ section will help.
Q: My ranking is the same as someone else even though I have won more matches. Why is this? A: The other person will have earned points for a walkover in an early round of a tournament but this is not apparent in the match stats as we do not reflect walkovers in match and rack stats. By not reflecting walkovers this gives players a more accurate representation of their actual performance.
Q: My ranking is the same as someone else even though our rack win % is the same but I have better break and run stats. Why is this? A: It's likely the person above you has a better rack win % when viewed to several decimal places but unfortunately we are not able to show the decimal places on screen. Time to get the calculator out to check!
Q: How does the rolling ranking system work? A: Each season we play 5 events (shown in the rankings list as E1, E2 etc) and we'll use the points awarded from the last 5 events held. When we start a new season the points you earn at event 1 will replace the points you earned the previous season at event 1 and be entered on the rankings list in column E1 so you will always have points showing from the last 5 events held. From these 5 events we select the best 4 to calculate your total points.
Q: What happens if people finish in a promotion position but then drop off the tour. Will the people above them move up into those positions? A: No. If people drop off the tour but finish in promotion position we'll offer the available spots in accordance with the criteria above. It will only be compulsory for the top 8 Challenge to take a Pro spot.
Q: If you are promoted but drop off the tour then subsequently take a reserve spot will you be able to play in Challenge at that event? A: No. If you are promoted and drop off the tour then are fortunate enough to be offered a reserve spot or you rejoin the tour you will only be allowed to play Pro that season.
Q: If you rejoin the tour in a subsequent season having not taken your place in Pro when promoted will you be allowed to play Challenge when you rejoin? A: If you rejoin the tour
in a subsequent season (or so late in the existing season that your Pro
ranking is not realistic) it will be at the discretion of the Committee
as to whether you are forced to take a Pro spot in the next full season
you play. This is why we have Committee wild cards as
part of our published criteria. The Tour Committee reserve the right to amend the format, regulations, match schedule and prize structure at any time without prior notice. However, we do not currently envisage having to make significant changes to these proposals. If we do make any changes we will endeavour to update this website promptly and if it is a significant change we will also make an announcement on the Pro9 website. |
